About the festival

The New Zealand Juggling Festival offers for four days and four nights of juggling workshops, shows and circus skills, in a friendly festive holiday environment. Since the early 1990s the festival has been held all over New Zealand – the festival moves every year or two to give equal travel opportunities, and to take the festival into different communities to introduce juggling to more people. We expect between 100 – 150 participants of all ages and from all over New Zealand and the world.

No matter how experienced you are, or if you’ve never juggled before, the festival has something to offer everyone (and everyone can contribute)..

In 2012 the venue is truly outstanding. Lake Karapiro Domain features a massive hall with glass walls and balconies onto scenic Lake Karapiro where New Zealand rowing teams train! This will be the base for more than 30 workshops, from three ball beginners through to advanced club-passing patterns, and all kinds of object manipulation – hula-hoops, diabolo, devil-stick, and physical skills, acro-balance, unicycle and trapeze. There will also be a trapeze rig on site, and lots of places to set up tissues and slack-ropes.

The site has great camping and cabins (more details below), or if you want something different, Cambridge is very nearby with many more options.

The festival has been welcomed warmly in the Cambridge area and the festival Public Show and Juggling Olympics will be promoted as part of the Cambridge Autumn Festival.

Registration is open now! There is no registration form this year (a first), to register, please email: contact@nzja.org.nz In your message, include:

To communicate with you in future we need you to agree that your email address may be used for the New Zealand Juggling Association to communicate with you about juggling festivals (about two to four emails a year).

Registration Fees

Registration Fees: $60 per person ($50 early bird fees up to 1 March 2012)

Children (with families): 0 – 7 are free, 7 – 14 $15

Camping is $12.50 per adult, Children (12 and under) $9. Cabins are $24.50 per night. You don’t need to pre-book for camping, there are plenty of scenic powered and un-powered sites. To book cabin space, tell us when you send your registration email.

Camping and Cabin fees go direct to the campsite.

Food and Cooking

The campsite and cabins have great little kitchens and scenic dining areas – but they’re not equipped. Bring your pots and pans and cutlery. We’ll have a small supply for those traveling light.

On-site catering and coffee to be confirmed, we’re hoping for a chai/coffee tent and/or pizza. Cambridge nearby for options too.

Getting There

Lake Karapiro is

Get directions on www.aamaps.co.nz. From SH1 take signs to Karapiro Dam, when you cross the scenic Dam wall turn left and it’s a few hundred meters to the site. There is a cycle-path between the site and Cambridge too. Some pick-ups will be organised from the Cambridge Information Centre. For overseas visitors, we recommended flying into Auckland and organising a lift or bus to Cambridge. If you need a lift, try posting on Facebook.
